Couple’s praise for hospice in Christmas appeal

-

MAIDENHEAD: A children’s hospice has launched an emotional Christmas appeal fronted by a Windsor couple who tragically lost their seven-week-old son.

Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service provided end of life care for Joshua, who had suffered a catastrophic stroke caused by meningitis.

Parents Emma and Peter Lowe, and three-year-old daughter Charlotte, chose to spend Joshua’s final days at the Snowball Hill hospice.

In the appeal video, the couple share their journey and describe how moving Joshua to Alexander Devine was crucial.

“We look back at that time and our last memories of Joshua were in this lovely hospice, surrounded by the fields and the gardens and the laughter of Joshua’s sister Charlotte playing in the pool and in the playground,” Emma said.

“It felt as warm and as compassionate and as amazing as it possibly could. You have the happy memories and that is a gift.”

Peter added: “It was Tam, a clinical nurse specialist, that suggested this idea of Joshua having a bath and it felt like the last thing I would have thought of doing.

“But he had that bath shortly before he died and that’s the memory I always have now of this beautiful little boy in this bath.”

A special screening of the appeal was held at the hospice on Tuesday. To watch, visit www. alexanderdevine.org/christmas
