Christmas scene in mi‘knit’ure

-

TOWN CENTRE: A group of knitters from Cookham have designed a Christmas scene on top of a postbox in a supermarket car park in Maidenhead to ‘bring a smile’ to shoppers’ faces.

Knit1Pearl1 is made up of about 12 members and has been meeting at Holy Trinity

Church since 2018.

With the festive season fast approaching, the group approached Waitrose, in Moorbridge Road, about creating a Christmas design to be placed on the top of the red postbox in the car park.

The knitting group regularly use the Elizabeth House day centre for the elderly, and the supermarket will be donating money from items sold to the venue.

Valerie Hamer, one of the knitting group members, said: “I came up with this idea and approached Waitrose and they agreed to give a donation to Elizabeth House where lots of us go for lunch.

“The design contains a Christmas pudding, cake, crackers and a chicken. People are saying it has brought such a smile to their faces, which is what we hoped.

“We are all older – but we have still got our marbles. It is a win-win; means we are meeting and producing something that brings a smile to the face, and we also get some money for Elizabeth House.”
