Let’s focus on local issues, not Brexit

-

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!

My simple hope that contributors to the Advertiser would focus on local issues was clearly a forlorn one.

Mr James Aidan has surpassed himself this time (Viewpoint, November 17).

Not only does he again display his disdain for the current Prime Minister, we are now lectured that it is quite unacceptable for any person whose parents decided to pay for their child’s education to hold high office, nor should any such office holder be so crass as to have a partner whose family have succeeded in become wealthy.

Budding politicians please take note.

And as for Brexit: how did that suddenly come in again?

I’d rather hoped that Mr Aidan had moved on from that issue, but I now see he has a lot of anger to yet dissipate.

To quote former President Barack Obama (with apologies for any errors): “We had an election. You lost. Get over it.”

And before Mr Aidan decides to attack me as the arch enemy, may I remind him that through these good columns earlier this year (March 17), you kindly allowed me to point out to him that I did not vote to leave the EU.

But we have, so there. Let’s move on. So please, dear readers, let’s get the debates here back to more pressing local issues – unless, of course, Mr Aidan can clearly demonstrate that the current state of the town centre’s development is a direct consequence of Brexit.
