Maids’ form fades after unwanted mid-season break

-

Maidenhead Men's 1st team haven't been able to sustain their positive start to the season as they were beaten 3-1 by Trojans at Altwood School on Saturday.

Phil Cowell's side went into the early mid-season break off the back of a very encouraging 2-0 win at Staines - the first time they'd managed a clean sheet in several months.

Their encouraging start had also seen them go to current league leaders Banbury and draw 1-1, but, since returning following the two-week break, Maids haven't been able to replicate those performances or results.

Confidence was knocked by a 2-1 home defeat to Henley and, although they played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at Winchester, they were then humbled again at the Altwood AstroTurf, losing 3-1 to in-form Trojans.

These results leave them eighth in the table, but only four points adrift of second placed Marlow, heading into Saturday's game at second bottom Reading 2nds.

It's a similar story for Maidenhead Women's 1st team, whose form has fluctuated since the very start of the season.

On Saturday, they were beaten for the fourth time this season, losing 2-1 at home to seventh placed Marlow.

Sarah Downes has said the side are aspiring to a top three finish this season, but back-to-back league defeats have left them six points adrift of third placed Henley.

Despite this, they should fancy their chances of bouncing back this weekend when they visit bottom club Havant. Their hosts have yet to register a point this season having lost all eight of their matches to date.
