Magpies drawn away to Hemel in the FA Trophy

-

The draw for the third round of the FA Trophy took place on Tuesday afternoon with Maidenhead United entering the competition with a tricky looking game at Hemel Hempstead Town.

The Magpies face lower-level opposition in the form of National League South side Hemel, but a trip to Vauxhall Road will be far from straightforward for Alan Devonshire's men.

Hemel overcame King's Lynn Town on penalties to make it through to the third round, and they're set to host the Magpies on Saturday, December 17.

Hemel's recent league form has been mixed leaving them 14th in the table, six points off the playoffs.

Slough Town will host league rivals Taunton Town in the third round of the Trophy, having overcome Hanwell Town 3-0 away from home on Saturday. Under the guidance of caretaker managers Scott Davies, Lee Togwell and Manny Williams - who all played against the Geordies - the Rebels finally brought their ninegame winless run to an end.

Hanwell rattled the crossbar in the early stages, but the visitors responded well and took the lead in the 20th minute through loanee Arnold Matshazi's rasping drive. Slough continued to press, with Matshazi and substitute Williams going close, but they were dealt a blow just before the hour mark when Matt Lench was sent off after a fracas between the players. Hanwell coach Sean Kelleher was also red carded for his involvement in the melee.

Despite this, Slough remained a threat and doubled their lead in the 74th minute when George Wells squared the ball for the evergreen Williams to fire home.

Then, in stoppage time, Matshazi’s effort was tipped away by Strizovic before Jackman side footed the ball home.
