Santas of all ages raise vital funds
Hundreds of Father Christmases strapped on their running boots over the weekend as Alzheimers Dementia Support’s (ADS) Santa Fun Run returned to Dorney Lake.
Maidenhead MP Theresa May spoke to participants before the race, which was started by mayor of the Royal Borough, Cllr Christine Bateson.
The forecasted bad weather stayed away throughout the event for the 200 participants, all of whom received a medal and a certificate for completing the 5K course.
First across the line was Gareth Lamb in 18:07, whilst the tiniest participant was Mattias who, at nine weeks
old, was snuggled in with his mum.
Santa himself handed out presents, while the 155 Maidenhead Squadron ATC Air Cadets guided and encouraged the runners around the course whilst reindeer rowed on the lake.
There were ‘best dressed’ competitions, a raffle and a ‘S-Elfie’ station where photographs could be taken with an inflatable Santa.
Actress Sue Holderness, the charity’s patron, was on hand to to help with the judging and presentations, as well as completing the circuit herself.
The fun run is a key fundraising event for ADS, which helps people with dementia and their carers and families in the Royal Borough and in Slough and Langley.
The charity thanked volunteers who assisted on the day, as well as everyone who participated and helped in raising funds and awareness in the local community.
Schools can still register to participate on their own premises during December in the ‘Santa Comes to your School’ competition which includes the opportunity to win a £500 prize sponsored by Craufurd Hale.
