Marlow men's team rediscover their mojo

-

Marlow men’s first team have been missing their mojo over the past few weeks, but they rediscovered it in exhilirating fashion with a 6-2 victory over ex-European champions Slough.

Top scorer Callum White netted a hat-trick in the comprehensive victory which should lift the Reds ahead of next weekend’s trip to another of their local rivals, Maidenhead Hockey

Club at Altwood School (1pm pushback).

It took White just four minutes to open his account for the afternoon, while Cameron BeasleyClarke sniffed out a goal, tapping home from two yards out to make it 2-0.

Slough replied with a goal of their own but there was still time for Josh Morgans to restore Marlow’s two-goal cushion before the break.

Two goals inside 10 minutes saw White complete his hat-trick, but the visitors refused to chuck in the white towel and responded again to make it 5-2 with 10 minutes to play. Elliot Killington had the final say, however, scoring at the death to seal a convincing 6-2 win. The result keeps them second in the table behind leaders Bannbury ahead of Saturday's match with Maidenhead, who drew 2-2 with Reading 2nds at the weekend.

Marlow’s 2nd team were beaten by a single goal on their trip to Reading 3rds on Saturday.

The visitors began well but spurned several decent opportunities in the opening 15 minutes, however, neither side was able to make the breakthrough in a scoreless first half.

Marlow saw several short corner opportunities go begging at the second of the second half before Reading came back into the contest.

The visitors looked more lethargic in the closing stages and it showed, with Reading picking out the bottom corner from one of their few short corners.

Rachel Goodwin scored from an early penalty corner to get

Marlow Women’s 1sts off to a blistering start against Trojans 2nds, and it set the tone for a dominant 5-2 win.

The hosts scored their second and third goals through Ella Brown and Martha Goodridge in the 10th and 11th minutes while Ellie Yeomans made it 4-0 after just 20 minutes as the Trojans were blown away.

The Trojans were stronger either side of the break and netted twice to make it 4-2 with 20 minutes to play, but Marlow went through the gears again late on, with Kiera Allen scoring their fifth and final goal.

The women’s 2nd team were edged out 2-1 in their derby clash at Wycombe 1sts. Some fine saves from Ruby Duncan kept Marlow in the hunt before half-time and

Julia Westnedge converted from a corner to give Marlow the lead.

Wycombe responded well however, forcing Marlow to concede an equaliser late on before taking all three points in a frantic finale. Despite the loss, Marlow remain top of their league with Wycombe moving up to second.
