Maids made to wait for that winning feeling

-

Maidenhead Men’s 1sts failed to win for the fourth league game on the bounce as they were held to a 2-2 draw by lowly Reading 2nds on Saturday, but Phil Cowell's side remain competitive in the South Central Men’s Premier Division 1 with only two defeats from eight in their matches so far.

Cowell was delighted by the side’s fine start to the campaign, which brought them victories over Slough and Staines – and saw them draw away at leaders Banbury – but the gloss is just starting to rub off a little bit having now not won since October 15. They did respond to their 3-1 home defeat to the Trojans however, and the result leaves them sixth in the table, only six points adrift of Saturday’s visitors to Altwood School, Marlow (1pm pushback). The game will be eagerly anticipated by both sets of players and supporters, with Marlow looking for a victory to bridge the gap to leaders Banbury and Maidenhead hoping to reel in some of the sides just above them in the table.

It was also a positive weekend for Maidenhead women’s first team, as they won 2-0 away at bottom of the table Havant.

The result was the side’s first away win of the campaign; however, they’d have been disappointed had they not picked up three points against a Havant side who’ve lost all nine of their matches so far, managing just three goals (and 45 against) in the process.

Maids are back on home turf this Saturday when they take on Oxford Hawks 2nds at Altwood School, 11.30am pushback.
