Woodham gets response from players against Water

-

Windsor manager Mick Woodham (right) got the response he was looking for from his players as the Royalists beat Virginia Water 3-0 for only their second league win since the end of August.

Woodham was less than impressed with his side's efforts in last week's 5-1 defeat at Broadfields United, claiming they'd chosen not to follow a very simple game plan.

But during the week in training, he managed to get them all back on side to produce one of their best displays of the season. All four of their league victories this season have come at Stag Meadow, and this was their most resounding since the side defeated promotion hopefuls Flackwell Heath by the same scoreline on August

29. After a goalless and fairly even first period, the Royalists got their noses in front when Kamil Zielinski fired them into a 52nd minute lead. A second followed for Luke Appleton in the 66th minute, while Dontaye Whittaker was brought off the bench to clinch victory with a third in the 78th minute.

On Twitter, Woodham wrote: “Overall I felt we were the better team. We defended our goal when asked to and attacked at every opportunity.

“Our intention was clear from the start and we got what we deserved, three goals, a clean sheet and three points.”

The result lifts Windsor to 14th in the Combined Counties Premier Division North table, with 14 points from 16 matches.

Woodham will fancy his side's chances of backing up Saturday's morale-boosting win when they travel to bottom of the table Oxhey Jets. The Jets have managed just one league win all season from 13 attempts.
