Burnham start to drift after winless run is extended

-

Promotion hopefuls Burnham are now 11 points adrift of league leaders Ascot United - having played two more games - after failing to win for the fourth game in a row.

The Blues were top of the table on goal difference when they visited the Yellamen at the Racecourse Ground on November 5, but they narrowly lost that game 2-1, and while rivals have raised their game in recent weeks, Ben Murray's side have faltered. Like league rivals, Flackwell Heath, goals have been difficult to come by in recent weeks, they've managed just three in their last four games and, while defeats to Ascot and Reading City were disappointing but understandable, Saturday's 3-1 reverse against 13th placed Wallingford & Crowmarsh was really deflating.

Joe Jones gave Wallingford the lead in the first half, while Callum Young fired the hosts further in front shortly after the interval and the Blues couldn’t recover.

The result leaves them fifth in the Combined Counties Premier Division North table, four points behind Flackwell having played the same number of games. They'll hope to get back to winning ways at home to Harefield United on Saturday.
