Help with health, activity and weight
ROYAL BOROUGH: A free weight management service has been launched by the Royal Borough in order to help residents maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The programme, run by Everyone Health on behalf of the council, is available to residents in the Windsor and Maidenhead area who are over the age of 18 and have a body mass index of 30 or higher (27.5 and above for selected ethnic groups).
It aims to offer 12 weeks of support, a nutrition workshop, physical activities and information on healthier food choices.
People who are overweight are more likely to suffer from a stroke and heart attack, conditions such as type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers including breast and bowel. Weight issues can also link to depression and anxiety.
Groups and one-to-one sessions are also available with friendly professional nutritionists. Designed to be fun and sociable, the sessions provide opportunities to meet others who are also looking to get fit and shift pounds for good.
Councillor Stuart Carroll, cabinet member for children’s services, education, health, mental health, and transformation, said: “In our Corporate Plan, we talk a lot about creating a sustainable borough of opportunity and innovation, where families and individuals are empowered to achieve their ambitions and fulfil their potential.
“Yet this is far more than providing the right economic and physical infrastructures.
“A healthy and happy population are also key, which is why weight management support programmes such as this are so important, supporting those residents who may need that little bit of extra help to achieve
their goals.”
Emma Croghan Cox, head of Everyone Health, said: “Everyone Health is delighted to be working to support the residents of the Royal Borough with their weight loss journey.
“We know that diets don’t work, so this tried and tested free programme is all about helping people to eat well and move more in a way that is comfortable and appropriate for them.”
