Burnham get payback on Hilltop and skipper celebrates England call up

-

Burnham continued their superb run of form to boost their chances of promotion with a brilliant 5-1 home victory over Hilltop, writes Craig Culley.

After losing 4-1 to the side in the first game of the season, Burnham were itching to get payback, which is exactly what they did, satisfying players and staff all around.

Ben Murray’s side have now made it seven league wins in a row and look in really good shape to secure a promotion play off place.

Blues goalkeeper and skipper, Carl Dennison (right), from all of us. They beat us in the first game of the season 4-1, so we owed them one. We scored five, it’s a shame that we didn’t keep a clean sheet, but a win is a win, and three points is three points.”

Dennison believes that the squad is in the best position to snatch second place and the all-important promotion playoff spot, adding: “We’ve got the team spirit, and everybody wants it. The bonus that we’ve got is that we’re in a position where we don’t have to catch up on any games, so we’ve got the rest time whereas all the other teams around us have to play at least two games a week.”

It’s also been a week of celebration for the Blues stopper as he’s once again been called up to represent England at the six-a-side Socca World Cup in Essen, Germany.

“I’m absolutely buzzing about it,” he said. “It’s a massive privilege to represent your country, but I just have to keep a level head about everything, take every game as it comes and obviously do the best that I can and if it helps us get three points then it helps us get three points, that’s the main goal.”

Last year, England were unfortunately knocked out in the round of 16 by Poland, but this year, there is a strong feeling that the team can go further.

“With the side that we’ve got, there’s a lot of new faces which is good and they’re very talented, I think we’ve got a very good chance of going one better, or even going to the semi-finals,” said Dennison.

“I can only help the team out with my job, it’s down to everyone else to put the ball in the back of the net.”
