Taking the plunge for Thames Hospice

BRAY: Thames Hospice is challengin­g people to take the plunge and sign up for its Open Water Swim Challenge this summer.

The event has been created in partnershi­p with Bray Lake Watersport­s and is sponsored by The Shanly Foundation. It encourages anyone over the age of 18 of all abilities to sign up.

The fundraiser will provide an opportunit­y for a good swim and raise funds for the charity at the same time.

The challenge will take place at Thames Hospice, next to Bray Lake on Sunday, July 2.

Thames Hospice’s head of community and events, Claire Redrup, said: “We are so excited to launch our first ever Open Water Swim Challenge this summer.

“It means so much to us, our community and supporters that this event will be taking place at the hospice, in Bray Lake.”

There will be a range of distances from 500m to

10km and participan­ts can swim individual­ly or as part of a team.

Claire added: “Not only will you be swimming in stunning surroundin­gs to raise vital funds for the hospice, but you’ll be engaging in an activity that has so many incredible health and wellbeing benefits.”

Registrati­on fees start from £30 per person.

All participan­ts will receive a swim hat, medal and free hot drink on the day. Exclusive branded hoodies are also available to purchase for £35.

All proceeds will help to ensure Thames Hospice continues to care for patients and their loved ones with the charity’s values of compassion, dignity and respect at the heart of its work.

Safety will also be a priority during the event.

Claire said: “Swimmers’ safety will be managed by Bray Lake Watersport­s’ profession­al swim safety team who have many years’ experience running regular safe swim sessions, as well as themed swim events.”
