Fulmer grasp victory from the jaws of defeat against Hurley

- Hurley CC

In the first match to be played by Hurley’s first team this season, the Shepherds Lane outfit made their way to newly promoted Fulmer and somehow contrived to lose a match they looked in control of. The home side won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first and Hurley posted a competitive 219-3 with debutant Tanvir Bashir (98no) and Josh Cole (72) being the major contributors.

In reply, all the Fulmer top order batsmen got starts, but none went on to make a significant score as the Hurley bowlers regularly picked up wickets.

When Adil Shaffiq dismissed Gautam and Hashmi, it looked like too big a hill to climb for the hosts, but Muhammad Shaharyar (43no) and Waleed Nawaz (6no) held their nerve to see Fulmer home for a two wicket win with three balls to spare.

Hurley seem to have forgotten how to close matches out and need to rectify this if they are to have any hopes of promotion this season.

W In a role reversal, Fulmer’s 2nd team will be wondering how they let victory slip through their fingers as Hurley’s 2nd team pulled off the great escape to claim victory by two wickets on Saturday.

Having been bowled out for 124 in 42.5 overs, with Hurley's Sukh Singh taking 413, the home side were reduced to 59-8 with opener Clive Williams, Dimple Singh, Gurjant Singh and Kuljit Lally all departing for a duck.

Thankfully, Joban Singh managed 35 and Mike Walton (11no) and Sukh Singh (57no) showed great application to chase down the total. A dropped catch on the boundary didn’t help the Fulmer cause and Sukh hit a boundary to win the match and precipitate wild celebrations from the Hurley contingent.
