Marlow make a promising start

Thames Valley Cricket League round-up: Marlow skittle Bushy Park for just 79 runs on their way to an eight-wicket win

-

Boyne Hill's 33-run victory over Uxbridge has seen them leap to the top of the fledgling Thames Valley League Division 1 table, with Cookham Dean dragged down to the lower reaches by Saturday's uninspiring 141-run defeat to Stoke Green.

Further down the divisions Marlow made a promising start to their TVL Division 2A campaign as they defeated Bushy Park by eight wickets away from home on Saturday.

Having won the toss and elected to field, they bowled Bushy out for 79 in less than 30 overs, with Taran Sohi helping himself to an impressive 5-20. John Venianakis took 2-19 and Shakil Ahmed 2-15 as the visitors swept through Bushy's batsmen with ruthless efficiency.

Aside from opener Paddy Parks (26) no one else in the home team's line up managed double figures, and Marlow took their time to chase down the total in 25.3 overs.

Imran Nawaz applied himself well to open with 27 and Will Bovill managed 11 before falling to Charlie Farrant. Jonathan Pears (22no) and Chris Goede (15) then saw the game out in comfortable fashion. Marlow sit third in the early season standings behind Harefield 2nds and High Wycombe 2nds.

Wraysbury will also be happy with their start to the season as they defeated Kew by 68 runs on home soil in the same division.

Having been put into bat, Wraysbury managed 219-7 from their overs, with Fahim Baharami (54) Hikmatullah Kakar (48) and Rayan Ahmad (29) all scoring well.

In reply, Kew were dismissed for 151 in 33.2 overs, with only Kieron Paterson (86no) doing his part to hold the innings together.

Fahim Baharami took 4-20 in an impressive all-round display.

In Division 2B Sonning were beaten by six wickets by Sulhamstead and Ufton and there were also early season wobbles for Hurst, who lost by 15 runs to Finchampstead 2nds and Slough 2nds, defeated by six wickets by Reading.

Burnham, who have fallen out of the Home Counties league and slipped down to the second tier of the Thames Valley league in recent seasons, saw their game with Binfield cancelled on Saturday. It means they're yet to pad up this season after the opening weekend washout.

In Division 3A there were shaky starts

made by both Royal Ascot and Windsor.

Bagshot got the better of Ascot by seven wickets on Saturday, chasing down 120 runs for victory.

Having been inserted, only Andrew Murray was able to resist Bagshot's impressive bowling, reaching 39 as his side were dismissed for 120 in the 39th over.

In response Bagshot eased to victory in just over 30 overs, reaching 122-3 with Brad Passfield (47no) and Jamie Heathcote (49no) in particularly fine form.

Kidmore End impressed with the bat as they defeated Windsor by 107 runs on Saturday.

Windsor inserted their hosts on winning the toss, but it proved an error as Kidmore racked up 303-7 from 45 overs.

Dario Boyce made 103 and there were fine stands from Mayank Kedia (83no) and Amol Tyagi (25). Adam Allen-Turner at least kept the home side honest, taking 3-52, but the total proved to be beyond Windsor, despite some decent knocks. Matthew Lazarczuk made 33, Vishal Nair 46, Allen-Turner 34 and Karl Ziemkendorf 28, but none could match the innings of Boyce and Kedia for Kidmore.

In the end they were bowled out for 196 in 45 overs.

Wooburn Narkovians got their season underway in Division 3B with a 139-run defeat to Hayes, the visitors falling way short of Hayes total of 280-6.

Maidenhead & Bray began their campaign on a winning note, however, defeating Amersham 2nds by 40 runs at home. Having been put into bat, Bray managed a reasonable total of 194-9 from their 45 overs, with Kieran Grey top scoring with 48. Ayan Jamal then took 4-26 as Amersham were dismissed for 154 in 41.2 overs. The best of their batting efforts came from Acheen Rajapaska (41).

In Division 4A White Waltham's encounter with Taplow was cancelled while in Division 4B, Ruislip got the better of Farnham Common by four wickets, with Ruislip chasing down 288-7 for victory.

In the same division, Farnham Royal beat Beaconsfield 2nds by 84 runs to make an encouraging start to their campaign. Having posted 227-6, with Saqib Ahmed making 96 and Muizz Niese 65, Royal bowled out Beaconsfield for 143 in the 44th over with Taha Hamid taking 4-25.
