Holyport College lift touch rugby trophy at Braywick

-

Schools from the Royal Borough were among the medal winners at a touch rugby event hosted by England Touch at Maidenhead's Braywick Park on Friday.

Mixed, boys, and girls school teams from ages u11s to u15s took part in the event which was held in conjunction with the Independent School Association.

The event was also supported by community coaches from London

Irish RFC who ran skills development sessions to help children develop the skills necessary for touch rugby such as evasive running and passing.

Some 46 teams from across the country registered to take part, with many of the teams experiencing touch rugby for the very first time. With the help of a fantastic group of young leaders from Reading's Bluecoat School they all picked up the game well and had lots of fun.

Moving forward it is hoped this can now become an annual event with the plan to welcome even more school teams in 2024.

Holyport College won the girls u15s event, defeating Winterstroke Hundred Academy in the final, with Furze Platt Junior School claiming a welldeserved bronze in the u11s Mixed event, with Herries Preparatory School in Maidenhead finishing fourth.

Bishop Challoner Diocesan won that u11s mixed event, with the Bohunt School in Wokingham taking the u13s girls title from Marlston House School, Buckleberry in second.

The u13s mixed event was won by Holme Grange School in Wokingham with the City of London Freemen's School in second. Millfield School won the u15s mixed event, and its preparatory school won the u13s boys’ event.

John Hampden Grammar School in Wycombe claimed victory in the u15s Boys event, defeating Reading Bluecoat School from Sonning in the final.

If any children would like to try out touch rugby, there are sessions from 5-6pm every Tuesday evening at Maidenhead Rugby Club plus camps during the school holidays (May 30-31 and July 25-26). There are also adult sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Please email sammie@in2touch.com for more information.
