Hospice angels gave us more happy memories

-

I would like to share a recent event to my family that involved an absolutely wonderful experience that I felt needed complimenting and some form of recognition.

Our father lived in Maidenhead.

As he got older, like many, he needed ongoing maintenance.

This was becoming an increasing concern to us, his children.

We were juggling our time and our lives to ensure we were by his side during the day but leaving him at night was intensely wor r ying .

We were in the process of addressing how we could share nights when one day, out of the blue, there was a knock on the front door.

An unassuming gentleman explained he was from palliative care.

He then proceeded to give both of us a hug – but a hug that felt as though he meant it. It was a hug that softly whispered in our ears ‘We are here for you’.

Unbeknown to us he had a magic wand and within days we found ourselves at the Thames Hospice.

The end of life of someone close is a distressing and difficult time but the compassion and caring freely offered by Thames Hospice has to be experienced to be believed.

It is very, very special.

The loss of any loved one is a bruise we all have to confront, but dear Windsor and Maidenhead, you are so, so lucky.

Windsor Road is an absolute haven full of angels with biscuits and oceans of compassion that is overflowing.

The last two weeks of my father’s life were extremely difficult but the happy memories Thames Hospice gave to us eased our memory of loss.

Our memory of happy times, playing music and dominoes, sharing stories and our beautiful 93-year-old father flirting with the staff, will be a memory we will hold dear for the rest of our lives.

All thanks to the love and caring freely given by all at Thames Hospice.

Look after your jewel.
