Pride in the arts at inaugural season

Norden Farm Centre for the Arts has announced its first Pride season this summer.

A month of events in comedy, drama and film are lined up at the Maidenhead venue starting next week.

Jane Corry, Chief Executive and Artistic Director at Norden Farm said: “We celebrate work from LGBTQ+ artists to demonstrat­e our support for the community and commitment to a world where no one is discrimina­ted against because of who they are or who they love.”

Patricia Highsmith, best known for her novels Strangers on a Train and The Talented Mr Ripley, is the focus of a documentar­y showing on Wednesday, May 31.

Loving Highsmith (12A) is a ‘vivid, touching portrait’ of the celebrated American author who was forced to live a double life, and is showing at 5pm and 8pm.

Performing in a solo play at 8pm on Wednesday, June 7 is actor and writer, Mark Farrelly.

He will bring to life Derek

Jarman a film-maker, painter, gardener, gay rights activist and writer who’s story has never been told following his death from AIDS in 1994.

Tickets are £16 for this ‘thought provoking’ drama about ‘one of the most extraordin­ary lives ever lived’.

Twitter sensation and BBC 4 regular Sooz Kempner will perform in Maidenhead on Thursday, June 15 at 8pm during her debut UK tour.

The award-winning comedy performer, singer, writer and actor who has written and performed eight solo stand-up hours at the Edinburgh Fringe.

In 1998, Sooz got a Playstatio­n and finally felt grown-up. But is she?

Her stand-up show, Sooz Kempner: Playstatio­n is for anyone who remembers the 90s or had big dreams as a kid. Gamers and non-gamers alike.

Tickets are £15.

Moroccan director, Maryum Touzani’s film The Blue Caftan (12A) is built around an emotional triangle between a middle-aged couple and a younger man.

Set in the Moroccan town Sale, Mina and her husband Halim run a small shop selling traditiona­l caftans but the arrival of an apprentice, Youssef, stirs problems when Halim realises his attraction to him.

Finally, a brand new LGBTQIA+ comedy night will launch on Thursday June 29.

Featuring the best of the UK comedy circuit, Laugh Out Proud! is a night for acts and audiences to express themselves in an inclusive and welcoming comedy club environmen­t.

Hosted by comedian Mark Cram at 8pm, some acts include Kate Martin, whose unique background in mental health gives her a fresh take on the world and awardwinni­ng Andrew O’ Neill with a ‘psychedeli­c non-binary whirlwind’ set. Tickets are £16.
