Eversley capitalise on ‘bad day at the office’

-

Stoke Green captain Gagan Singh explained his side had a ‘bad day at the office’ as they slipped to an eight-wicket defeat to visitors Eversley on Saturday.

Singh admitted Eversley had played the better cricket as the hosts fell to a one-sided defeat to slip down to sixth in TVL League Division 1.

On winning the toss and electing to bat first, Green managed just 93 runs before they were declared all out as B Salter (3-17) and N Vojinov (314) delivered the most damage with the ball.

In reply, Eversley required just four batsmen to reach their target with T Nichols (34) knocking the lion’s share of runs as the side finished on 94-2 in 24.3 overs.

Reflecting on the early season stumble, Singh said: “It was a bad day at the office for us. They (Eversley) played the better cricket and definitely deserved to win.

“It was a poor batting display from us, and I hope we learn from this and perform better in our upcoming games.

“On a positive note, our spinners bowled well with the score we had on the board and I’m hoping they will continue to keep up the good work in the coming matches.

“Zaheer (Bobby) Sher (24) went the right mindset after losing two quick wickets. He got the runs going but unfortunately couldn’t make it into a big one.

“Myself coming in at number seven, it is a hard task to get the runs flowing when you have lost so many wickets for not many runs. I could have applied myself better and I will learn from this experience.”

Singh and his men now turn their attention to Henley, who sit third in the table after Saturday’s win over Tring Park.
