MP wants joint effort on NHS hub

-

MP Theresa May has called for NHS Frimley and the Royal Borough council to work together to set up an NHS hub in the town.

The Maidenhead MP is calling for the two organisations to work together to set up the hub and operate a host of core services from it.

These include GP services, community nurses, diagnostics, maternity and CAMHS services alongside services from the council and others including housing and drug and alcohol support providers.

Mrs May said: “I have heard from people working in the NHS in Maidenhead that an NHS hub bringing together various key services of the NHS in one place could deliver real benefits to local people.

“It could also accommodate others with a role in improving local health and wellbeing.

“The pre-existing Berkshire Integrated hub telephone-based system for handling all referrals to community health services works well and I believe that an integrated care hub can further increase the quality of treatment and outcomes for people in Maidenhead and the surrounding area.”

Mrs May added she is aware the idea of an NHS hub in Maidenhead has been discussed in the past but stated that it ‘relies on the council working with the NHS and playing its part in ensuring this can happen’.

Cllr Catherine del Campo, cabinet member for adult services and health, said: “We have a strong desire to work together to create such a facility in Maidenhead.

“The plans though are still very much in their early stages, as we’re currently defining what can realistically be delivered.”

NHS Frimley Integrated Care Board (ICB), said: “We continue to work with the council on developing future plans for health and care services in Maidenhead.”
