The line-up has been announced for the first round of Maidenhead Fringe Festival’s Battle of the Bands, on Friday, March 22.

Hosted by Potion & Motion in King Street, the event kicks off a programme to showcase musical talent in the town centre leading up to the main Maidenhead Festival in July.

Competing in the first round will be new Maidenhead covers band Millennium, who play 90s and early 2000s pop, punk, and emo; melodic Reading rock and pop band The Colour Tree; and Thatcham-based rockers Juliette the Band.

Also on the bill will be Newbury band Violet Origin, who play classic rock with a modern twist, and Guildford’s Gods to Ghosts, who perform original songs with a wide range of influences.

The winning band from each round will secure a coveted spot opening for the headline acts at the main Festival’s Saturday and Sunday night concerts.

Tickets to the Battle of the Bands cost £3 in advance or £4 at the door, which will go towards funding the main Festival that costs £60,000 to stage.

Slots are still available for the second round of Battle of the Bands on Sunday, May 10. The competition is open to musicians of every kind, from rock bands to pop and electronic groups. A separate contest will be held for acoustic acts, with the winner and runner-up securing slots to perform on the Festival’s main stage during the weekend.

Festival chairman Lisa Hunter said: “The first round of Battle of Bands kicks of this year’s Fringe Festival, which leads up to the main Festival weekend on July 20-21. We hope lots of people will join us for a great night of music and help choose the bands which will support our headliners – a fantastic experience playing on the huge Festival stage for a massive audience.”
