Our next MP needs to put climate crisis first

-

The resignation of Theresa May signals a turning point for Maidenhead and the UK.

As we approach the general election, it is crucial that we show our support for the

Vote for Climate campaign and seize this moment to elect leaders who are committed to tackling the climate crisis with the urgency it deserves.

Climate change is the defining challenge of our time, and the actions we take now will shape the future of our planet.

The UK has made strides in reducing its carbon footprint, but there is still much work to be done. We need policies that accelerate the transition to renewable energy, promote sustainable transportation, and encourage energy-efficient practices across all sectors.

The upcoming election is an opportunity to show what is important to us by supporting parties that have a clear and ambitious plan for climate action.

These parties will understand that addressing climate change is not only about preserving the environment but also about ensuring economic stability and social equity.

They will be prepared to make the necessary investments in green technology and infrastructure that will create jobs and drive innovation.

Incorporating the principles of the Vote for Climate campaign into our voting decisions means supporting policies that align with the UK’s legally binding net-zero targets.

It means choosing candidates who will push for a proper scheme for home insulation, support renewable energy over new oil and gas, and bring down bills for homes and businesses across the UK.

Theresa May’s departure as our local MP reminds us that change is constant and necessar y.

It is a chance for new voices to emerge, voices that will prioritise the health of our environment and the well-being of future generations.

By voting for parties that are dedicated to bold environmental policies, we can continue the UK’s legacy of leadership in the fight against climate change.

As residents of Maidenhead, we have a responsibility to pledge to be a Climate

Voter and use our vote to make a difference.

Let’s support candidates who are ready to take decisive action and work towards a sustainable and prosperous future for all. SARAH BOWDEN
