Plum (and fresh) in the heart of village

-

A burst of health and vitality has arrived on the High Street in Burnham with the opening of new greengrocers, Fruits of Burnham Village.

Open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm the family-run fruit and veg firm aims to keep residents healthy by providing a plethora of choices from the humble grape to the exotic guava.

Owner Kulvinder Singh Purewal said that he saw a gap in the market for a local fresh fruit and veg shop and as a Burnham resident wanted to make a difference to his neighbours.

“We saw that there was no greengrocers there when we moved to the area,” he said.

“We already have a shop like this in Ruislip and we wanted to bring lots of fruit and vegetables to the community to make them healthy.

“You can find lots of pizzas and burger shops and baked goods everywhere very easily but these days people are getting less fresh fruit and we wanted to change that by making it easier for them to access a wide range of items on the High Street.”

Comments so far from villagers have been really positive with people saying on social media that they are making huge savings and that they like the variety on offer on their doorstep.

Kulvinder added: “You can find apples and bananas and grapes, common items, everywhere, but we are doing some dragonfruits and guavas plus really fresh strawberries and different types of vegetables that you can't get anywhere else.

“Our aim is to bring every type of fruit and vegetable here and so that people don’t have to go far from the village to get healthy food.

“For now we are working out what people need and will bring in anything else that will make them happy.”
