Tejas to take on the home nations
Badminton: Badminton player selected for u15s quadrangular event
Maidenhead's Tejas Singh is set to link up with his Badminton England teammates this weekend for the u15s Quadrangular Tournament between the home nations.
The Maidenhead player, who has been playing Badminton since the age of eight and was fasttracked onto the England Junior Pathway programme at the age of 10, has a top three ranking in all three disciplines and his mum Ranjana is confident he can perform for his country in this competition.
The 13-year-old won gold in the boys’ doubles and mixed doubles and claimed silver in the boys' singles Gold Star event at the recent Gold Tournament in Yorkshire. Tejas, who lives in Foxborough Court just off Shoppenhangers Road, has high hopes of achieving similar when the Quadrangular Tournament gets underway in Milton Keynes this Friday.
England will go into the tournament as favourites; however, his dad Sandeep says there are many confident young players for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland who will pose a threat to England's - and Tejas's - hopes of glory.
He is a national champion in the boys’ doubles at u13s level and is currently ranked third in the u15s singles, second in the u15s doubles and second in the u15s mixed rankings.
He frequently plays and trains at Wycombe Badminton Centre which is his primary location for Performance training. In addition, Braywick Leisure Centre are a massive supporter of Tejas who provide him with exceptional facilities for badminton and allround athletic development as a local talent working towards national glory.
His head coach Harley Towler says: “Tejas is a fantastic player with lots of potential, and a pleasure to work with. Through Wycombe Performance Centre, local council and Badminton England, Tejas is being supported as a future prospect of English badminton.
“I have a lot of confidence in Tejas and the wider team for the upcoming Quadrangular tournament and look forward to coaching during the event. Good luck to Tejas and the team.”
Tejas’s father, Sandeep, added: “His ranking is quite high in all three categories (boys doubles, mixed doubles, and singles). His ranking is top three for all at u15s in England and he has been selected for all three.
“I would have thought England will do well. We know that there is a Scottish boy who comes to play in other tournaments who is quite strong, but our team, overall, should do really well. As a team we should definitely win.”
