Blues wrap up second with late win at South Park

-

South Park 1, Marlow 2 Marlow have wrapped up second place in the

Isthmian League South Central Division after they claimed a very late win at South Park on Saturday and Leatherhead were beaten at Hanworth Villa.

The Blues have repeatedly shown their resolve in recent weeks, fighting back from 4-1 down to beat Thatcham Town 5-4 earlier this month, and they needed that spirit and resilience to claim all three points at South Park this afternoon.

Having fallen behind to Craig McGee’s 19th minute strike, Mark Bartley’s side managed to get themselves level before the breakthrough Benjamin Mulley 27th minute goal.

It was his third goal in as many games for a player who’s finding form in front of goal at the right stage of the season.

It looked like South Park would deny their visitors all three points until the 96th minute, when Jordi Ndozid found the net to help the Blues claim crucial back-toback away wins.

Tuesday’s 4-0 win at Hartley Wintney confirmed Marlow’s place in the end-ofseason play-offs, but they’d have been keen to finish the season second to champions Chertsey and go into the play-off semi-finals with a home tie to the fifth-placed side, currently Westfield.

With the Blues winning and Leatherhead losing, Bartley’s side now have a three-point lead over the second placed side with a far superior goal difference. They round off their campaign at home to Hanworth Villa next Saturday (April

27) while Leatherhead host Hartley Wintney.

Bartley said “It was a tight, even game against a well-coached and well organised

side. Whilst I think we could have been better, I’m supremely proud that we kept going and found a way to win. .
