Round two of Maidenhead Festival’s Battle of the Bands, part of the Fringe series, takes place tonight (Friday) at Potion & Motion in King Street.

Starting at 7.30pm, the line-up features four bands plus a special set by last year’s winners The Courtlands Stories, who will play while the judges make their decision.

Battling it out will be punk, grunge and alternative rock band Echo Chambers from Reading, teenage rockers Beyond the Sons from Thatcham, Bracknell-based Cantopop band 852X, and new Maidenhead rock trio Glitch.

The Battle of the Bands is part of a programme of Fringe events showcasing musical talent in the town centre leading up to the main Maidenhead Festival in July.

Tickets cost £4 at the door and all proceeds go towards funding the £60,000 cost of staging the main Festival, which is free to attend.

The winning band will join first round victors The Colour Tree in securing a coveted spot opening for one of the headline acts at the Festival’s Saturday and Sunday night concerts on July 20 and 21.

Festival chairman Lisa Hunter said: “The first round of Battle of Bands was a fantastic night and we hope lots of people will join us for another great evening of music and to help choose the second band which will play on the Festival main stage in support of our headliners.

“We’re also delighted to be welcoming back last year’s winners, The Courtlands Stories, for a special set while the judges make their deliberations and the votes are counted.”

Organised by the community for the community, the Maidenhead Festival weekend will see the return of all the usual family-focussed favourites including a packed programme of music on the main stage, an array of stalls and sideshows, fairground rides and a huge selection of street food. As always festival admission, the on-stage entertainment, children’s beach and the spectacular fireworks display will all be free of charge.
