Four quizzed over street shoot-out

FOUR men have been arrested by police investigat­ing a street shoot-out.

All four were held after officers from GMP’s organised crime team based in Tameside raided eight properties in Denton and one in Hattersley in dawn swoops early yesterday.

Two men, aged 31 and 23, were held on suspicion of attempted murder.

A 28-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of affray and a 31-year-old on suspicion of production of cannabis.

All four were being questioned. Police said a number of vehicles, cash, cannabis and assets worth more than £8,000 were seized in the raids.

Two armed gangs clashed in Haughton Green, Denton, at around 10.15pm on Tuesday.

A sword was later recovered. Masked men first opened fire in Spenser Avenue before they went to nearby Wordsworth Road and aimed their weapons at a passing Land Rover Freelander.

The Land Rover then crashed into a parked Ford Focus and a telephone signal box.

After the smash two men who were travelling in the stolen Freelander and two others fled the scene. No one was hurt. The Freelander had previously been stolen from an address in Ashton on July 25, police revealed.

Police chiefs said that the incident is believed to have been caused after a firearm was pointed at the moving vehicle by one of the men involved in the incident on Spenser Avenue.
