CCTV footage appears to show a man casually causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to cars as he saunters down a street.

The man was caught on a private security system leaving the Shackleton Street / Nansen Avenue area of Monton, Salford, before heading down Canal Bank towards Patricroft, just after midnight.

The video shows him bending down, appearing to pick something up from the pavement, before veering towards cars parked at the side of the road.

At several points in the footage, he appears to make contact with cars. Oblivious to passing drivers, he appears to carry on his mindless spree of vandalism down the road, brazenly targeting a long line of cars.

The following morning, residents awoke to find nearly a dozen vehicles had been damaged, with long, deep scratches in the paintwork.

Lisa El-Qusem’s car was left with damage to two doors and a panel.

Repairs are expected to cost thousands of pounds.

Husband Hani, 39, posted the footage on Facebook in a bid to find the culprit.

He said: “My wife’s car was damaged and about 10 others. Everyone is fuming.

The huge scratch down the side of Lisa El-Qusem’s car in Monton thing – a few cars damaged. But this hasn’t been an issue here before.

“The man’s behaviour was very odd. We’d really appreciate if people take a look at the footage and share it with their friends so we have a better chance of finding him.”

The man in the footage appears to be wearing a dark jacket, a light T-shirt, grey or blue jeans and white trainers. He was carrying a draw-string bag.

Police confirmed officers had received a report of criminal damage to a BMW on Canal Bank between 10pm on July 25 and 10am on July 26.

They said enquiries are ongoing.
