Celebrate our games

-

LONDON is once more celebrating the anniversary of the Olympics with an athletics event. Why has Manchester never celebrated the anniversary of the Commonwealth Games similarly? Patrick Corrigan, Levenshulme

On our current trip, we have had the opportunity to enjoy the excellent facilities of the East Manchester Leisure Centre due to my sister, a resident of Openshaw, kindly taking us there.

Visiting the centre last Thursday, we were enjoying the swim when my husband realised he’d lost his wedding ring.

He reported the loss to staff, who were very helpful, and we all started searching the water. Before long several kind people were helping in the search.

We were just about accepting it wouldn’t be found when a gentleman, with the aid of swimming goggles, saw the ring on the floor of the pool.

He brought it to us, and of course we were delighted and it was a lovely feeling. Everyone else was pleased too. The gentleman’s partner said he was her hero and, Barny, you were certainly our hero that day.

We are extremely grateful for his help and also the very pleasant staff. M and K Bartley, c/o Hyde
