COYLE OUT TO UPSET THE ODDS

- Boxing Sheldan Keay

Tommy Coyle, right, and Luke Campbell square up ahead of the fight

TOMMY Coyle believes Luke Campbell’s lack of heart will be the difference when the two fight in Hull tonight.

Coyle, who is trained by Jamie Moore in Salford, hopes to become the first man to defeat the Olympic gold medallist since he turned professional.

The 25-year-old is a massive underdog in the bout, but he insists he is a lot more determined than Campbell.

“If I can find a way to get up then I will. I’ll keep coming at you and I don’t believe that Luke Campbell has that in his DNA,” he said.

“He’s an exceptional fighter and he’s better than I’ll ever be, but this fight won’t come down to that, I’m too much for him too early.

“I’m not the greatest fighter, I’ve said this many times. But there are two types of people – you are born a certain way.

“You can learn how to be a better boxer but I am a Coyle. My dad said to me when I was five that pain is just an emotion, and I’ve had that drummed into me so you will need to knock me out to win.

“I am a big outsider as Luke’s an exceptional fighter. But I am a professional and I have prepared as hard as ever, it doesn’t matter if I am fighting Luke Campbell or Donald Duck.

“I didn’t expect to get this far in my career. I really believe I am too much for Luke at this stage of his career and I am going to go in there and knock him out. I’ll prove all the critics wrong.”

Campbell has won all 11 of his bouts since making his debut in 2013, with nine of those victories coming by knock-out.

A victory tonight would move him one step closer to a world-title shot, and Campbell is confident that Coyle won’t be able to deal with his style.

“I’ve prepared for anything that he can bring and know I can hurt him so we’ll see if he wants a war when I do,” he said.

“Tommy says he loves a war but in his last few fights he’s boxed on the back foot. If you are doing that, you are not going in for a war, you are going in to box.

“People have wanted me to step-up and this is a world-title eliminator. At this stage of my career I should be in with Tommy or better, and once I deal with Tommy in good style then we’ll step up again.

“I don’t dislike Tommy, he’s just an obstacle in the way to reach my goals.”
