It won’t be a monster smash

-

GODZILLA (PS4, PS3)

JUST like a hilariously bad B-movie, there may be gamers decades from now who look back lovingly at this monster mash, developed by Japanese studio Natsume Atari.

Placed in control of one of the most famous and destructive monsters in entertainment history, you must trample and lay waste to cities and environments, building up your powers in the process, before slugging it out with a host of equally awesomely sized miscreants.

And, while there is some significant weight to be felt from the full force of our scaly super-monster’s attacks, this actually makes the gigantic combat sequences feel incredibly slow-paced, to the point of pedestrian.

And that can’t be good for a game, can it? Despite the ludicrous detail provided by the in-game monster encyclopaedia, it’s a shame to say that the same level of attention hasn’t been paid to the playability.

So bad, it’s almost good. But not quite...

FOREST HOME (iOS)

MANY puzzle games offer a cute visual exterior which masks a maddeningly difficult concept. Forest Animals certainly ticks the first box, but its central concept never quite dangles that addictive carrot before you.

You must draw multiple paths from one commonly coloured animal burrow to another, within a tight squared grid where paths cannot cross and all of the grid must be filled.

You’ll have bridges to help you, food for animals to collect along the way and sometimes a number of animals aiming for the same final destination.

This will certainly deliver some brain-teasing fun for younger gamers but that enjoyment will be usurped by perennial pestering for you to spend real world cash to purchase acorns, which can unlock further levels, replenish lives, and so on.

All in all, you’ve got to ask yourself whether these colourful forest creatures are better off out in the wild. You certainly would be.
