First tango in Halifax at a relaxing hotel

KAYLEE LASSETER stayed on the outskirts of the charming Yorkshire town on a weekend retreat

-

DO you feel down from all the hustle and bustle of living in the city?

Sometimes a change of scenery, pace, and some quality time with your partner is just what you need to relax.

Halifax has an abundance of independent shops, restaurants, cafes, theatres and Eureka! The National Children’s Musuem.

In addition, this charming Yorkshire town is home to well preserved Georgian and Victorian landmarks.

Holdsworth House is tucked away on the outskirts of Halifax town centre and is most likely exactly what you are looking for.

The hotel is only three miles from the centre of the town but is surrounded by beautiful green gardens, paddocks with ponies and fields.

Built in 1633, Holdsworth House has kept many of its period features.

It is ideally located as a base from which to explore the Pennines and the Dales. The entrance to the hotel immediately gives you the feel of what Holdsworth House is all about, luxury in the countryside.

You quickly grasp the Jacobean feel which is left to hold its own, uninterfered by flashy signs.

At reception we were greeted by the cheerful staff who gave us all the information we needed for our room and offered us a complimentary glass of wine.

We were allocated room 40 which had the perfect balance of modern and period, with all the mod cons and a touch of luxury with fluffy bathrobes.

Holdsworth House’s restaurant has been awarded numerous AA rosettes during the years and the staff at dinner gave us a warm welcome.

Our table had a lovely nighttime view of the hotel’s gardens.

The restaurant has an extensive wine list to suit all tastes.

I ordered the sweet potato gnocchi which was delicious and my partner had the sirloin steak which he said ‘was to die for’. My dessert of lemon meringue had a refreshing citrus zing and my partner ordered the homemade double chocolate brownie ice cream, which he also enjoyed.

After a great nights sleep, we headed downstairs for breakfast.

The tea was some of the best I have ever had. The crockery was also very beautiful and gave a lovely classic countryside feel.

We both went for the cooked breakfast and I have to give particular mention to the poached eggs which were cooked to perfection.

Those looking to further treat themselves should have afternoon tea in the beautiful gardens, it will not disappoint.

Halifax and Holdsworth House cater for people of all ages and interests, I’d particularly recommend staying if you are a couple or small family.
