DAD CHARGED WITH BABY’S MURDER:
Mum says two-week-old Florence, who was found with injuries, ‘will always be in our hearts’
THIS is the dad accused of murdering a twoweek-old baby girl. Matthew Higham, 25, appeared in court charged with the murder of Florence Liberty Mae, who was found with injuries at around 8pm on Wednesday night.
Police were called to a house in Shaw Heath, Stockport, after being alerted by paramedics.
Mr Higham, of Shaw Road South, Stockport, appeared in Stockport Magistrates Court yesterday morning charged with the murder of the baby.
He appeared in the dock dressed all in grey and showed no emotion.
His hearing lasted less than five minutes and the case was committed to Crown Square Crown Court. He is set to appear in the Manchester city centre court on Monday, August 3.
Florence’s devastated family have said she was adored and paid tribute to their ‘precious angel’.
Her mother said: “Florence Liberty Mae was my much-loved daughter and was adored equally by her big sister Amelia, her Ninny and all her family.
“We barely had time to know you, or see you grow and you will be dearly missed.
“The short time we spent with you was precious and you will always be in our hearts, beautiful girl.
“Sleep tight our precious angel.”
Officers were called to a house on Shaw Road South by paramedics following reports a twoweek-old baby girl had stopped breathing at around 8.15pm on Wednesday.
The child was rushed to Stepping Hill Hospital but later died.
A Home Office post mortem revealed the baby had died from multiple injuries.
Police remained at the scene outside the terraced home on Friday night.
