TALKING BET TING

- Fred Done

THERE has been a huge debate about who is going to get that famous United No.7 shirt.

Well my message to Louis van Gaal is don’t give it to anyone…not yet anyway.

The current crop of Reds players need to earn the right to be handed what is definitely the most famous football shirt in Europe – if not the world.

It is the shirt worn by true legends of the game such as Best, Cantona, Robson, Beckham and Ronaldo.

Let them show us they have the right to live with the legends.

We’ve not kicked off the new Premier League campaign yet and Roy Keane and Pep Guardiola, among others, are already having a pop at my beloved United.

Alright, the mighty Reds are only fourth favourites with Betfred for the title, but they are moving in the right direction.

Bayern manager Guardiola reckons Bastian Schweinsteiger isn’t fit.

Well, I just don’t believe LVG would sign the German World Cup winner if he wasn’t convinced he’d do a brilliant job in our midfield.

Still, Schweinsteiger now has that additional spur to prove his old boss wrong, starting against Tottenham at Old Trafford tomorrow.

Regarding Keano, he has a point that the defence could be an issue to ensure the strength of the spine, but again my view is let the current players battle it out and prove they are up for the job.

If they fail there is always the next transfer window in January.

Talking of transfers, there has been a lot of interest in United making an 11th-hour move for last season’s England scoring sensation Harry Kane (left). In the last 48 hours he’s gone from 6/1 with Betfred to 11/10.
