- NON-LEAGUE

NEIL Young has resigned as Altrincham boss after just four months in charge.

The former Stockport County manager made his decision after the National League North side’s 4-2 home defeat against Curzon Ashton on Saturday – their third loss in a row.

Young said: “I believe it’s in the best interest of myself and, more importantly, the football club that I step down with immediate affect, and I also believe it’s the right time to ultimately retire from the dug-out.”

Salford City maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a hardfought 3-2 win over Gainsborough Trinity.

The Ammies were a goal down after four minutes, but hit back thanks to Simon Grand and then Mike Phenix and Billy Priestley.

FC United lost 1-0 at Brackley Town.

The only goal of the game arrived 15 minutes from time when Gareth Dean’s effort seemed to be cleared off the line, but the assistant flagged for a goal.

Stalybridge Celtic lost 3-1 to Gloucester City at Bower Fold.

Celtic were 3-0 down after 33 minutes, with Steven Tames getting their only goal after 52 minutes.
