Shakers prove their point with incredible three-goal fightback

BURY staged an impressive fightback, recovering from three goals down at halftime to earn a point in a 3-3 thriller at Walsall in League One.

Goals from Kieron Morris, Erhun Oztumer and Simeon Jackson had the hosts 3-0 up after just 32 minutes. Walsall could have been out of sight by the break but Bury shot-stopper Ben Williams twice foiled Jackson in one-on-ones.

Bury were back in it with goals from Leon Barnett and James Vaughan in the first five minutes of the second half, before Danny Mayor levelled things up after 66 minutes.

ROCHDALE also secured a point thanks to an own goal by goalkeeper Ryan Clarke in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Andy Barcham had put the visitors ahead early on at the Crown Oil Arena.

OLDHAM ATHLETIC claimed a point against high-flying Bradford City – Peter Clarke having given the Latics a fifth-minute lead, only for Bill Sharp to equalise from the spot.

BOLTON’S perfect start to the season came to an end due to a 90th-minute stunner from Charlton substitute Ademola Lookman.

The Trotters had taken the lead through Gary Madine in the 53rd minute after good work from Liam Trotter on the wing, but teenager Lookman denied Bolton a fifth successive win with his late 20-yard strike securing a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, in the Championship, Wigan slipped to a 1-0 home defeat against QPR.

Ex-City defender Nedum Onuoha’s scored the only goal of the game within three minutes of the restart as the Latics slipped to their second defeat in a row.

Wigan enjoyed the lion’s share of the game, but were unable to break through a determined Rangers rearguard.

For Wigan boss Gary Caldwell, it was more disappointment on the back of last weekend’s last-gasp 4-3 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

“It’s frustrating again,” assessed Caldwell.

“I thought we created opportunities, even more so towards the end of the game. We could have switched play better, we could have played in wide areas better, we know they’re a team that plays narrow. We just didn’t exploit that space as much as we would have liked.

“Again we conceded a poor goal, and we have to learn that clean sheets are going to be the bedrock of our success this season.

“There were a few positives, we created opportunities, the players gave me everything, they kept going.”
