Pep’s happy for Toure to stay

PEP Guardiola will keep Yaya Toure at City after being pleased by the attitude of the player and his agent.

The Ivorian was one of a number of players that looked to have uncertain futures at the Etihad, with the new coach opting not to include him in a 21-man squad for the first Champions League game with Steaua Bucharest earlier this month.

Toure is yet to feature in a Premier League squad this season let alone an XI, despite warm words from Guardiola about the way he has been training.

But the Blues boss is willing to keep the player in his squad after talks over his future.

He said: “I spoke with him. He said he wants to stay. If he wants to stay, I am happy.

“There are a lot of games. Everybody needs to play. I know his quality.

“For example in the last 20 minutes against Steaua Bucharest he played as a striker and played amazing. Of course I know him very well and his behaviour from the beginning was perfect. When his behaviour is okay and his agent as well, everything is going very well.”

City are still expecting departures before the transfer window closes.

Samir Nasri, Eliaquim Mangala and Wilfried Bony have all been told they can leave, while Txiki Begiristain confirmed Joe Hart would be given help to find a new club.
