Future unclear for City target Bonucci

- By SIMON BAJKOWSKI

CITY target Leonardo Bonucci wants to stay at Juventus, but admits his future is out of his hands.

The Blues showed an interest in the centre-back last summer and speculation concerning the player hasn’t gone away this season.

Despite Pep Guardiola’s public backing for Vincent Kompany last week, the City manager is expected to go back into the transfer market for defenders at the end of the campaign.

Having overcome a touchline row with Bonucci last month, Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri is now being linked with a move to Arsenal.

“I don’t know if the boss will go to the Premier League, but I’m owned by this club and the club will decide whether or not to sell me,” said Bonucci. “I hope to honour the contract. “I am part of this club’s heritage and I signed a contract here until 2021.

“I’m here and I feel important for this club and I don’t see where the problem is.

“If I had wanted to leave, I would have pushed to leave last year when I received offers. I had even started studying English.”

Guardiola insisted before Sunday’s win at Sunderland that City are planning for life with Kompany next season, saying that he can see no reason why the defender will not be able to have a full campaign without injury.

But he chose not to include the club captain in the matchday squad at the Stadium of Light, once again opting not to play him despite the centre-back being available.
