Unabombers’ one-off Electric Chair reunion

POPULAR Manchester club night Electric Chair is making a comeback - in the basement underneath city centre restaurant The Refuge.

The Refuge Basement - formerly Copperface Jack’s - is just 100 yards away from the nights longest standing home of the now defunct Music Box on Oxford Road.

Paying homage to their subterranean beginnings, April 1 will see homegrown DJ duo The Unabombers - who also run The Refuge and South Manchester bars Electrik and Volta - take over the disused forgotten space for a one-night revival of Electric Chair.

The Return of Electric Chair is the first in a series of events programmed for 2017. The second is So Flute on Friday April 14 (Good Friday) and A Love From Outer Space with Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnson the following night on Saturday April 15.

Luke Cowdrey, one half of the Unabombers, said: “When we first discovered the basement below The Refuge, we knew it would be a perfect place to run a series of parties.

“The space itself is very reminiscent of where we started, back in the grimey basements of back street Manchester and this is what we want to go back to. The fact it sits under the belly of the amazing Refuge space it is kind of perfect, offering an antithesis to the opulence and grandeur above. We can’t wait to get everyone back under the same roof for a one-off resurrection.”

The Unabombers’ last Electric Chair night saw more than 1,000 people attend.
