Search for Romanian rescue dog

- By SAM YARWOOD

HUNDREDS of people have joined the search for a Romanian refugee dog who went missing after just 20 minutes in a her new home.

Four-year-old Molly was taken in by Irlam-based Dogs 4 Rescue in February having survived horrific conditions in an eastern European pound.

The street dog was placed with a foster family after a few weeks – but managed to escape from their garden in Old Trafford less than half an hour after arriving at the house.

Dogs 4 Rescue owner Emma Billington says the animal, which looks like a large border terrier, has been walking miles and miles each day around the Ordsall, Lower Broughton and Salford Quays areas, but after ten days they have still been unable to catch her.

She said: “Molly came over in February, we often take dogs from foreign countries but usually only take those that we know we can rehome. From time-to-time when we have space we take in dogs like Molly, who are more difficult to rehome because they’ve never been a pet.

“We teach them to be a pet and they turn out to be the most loving and loyal of all.

“Molly has no aggression at all, but she is very scared of people and every time we get close to catching her she runs off. When she was in the pound she saw other dogs killed in front of her, it was horrific.”

Emma explained that Molly went missing on Saturday, February 25, from Old Trafford, and within hours was spotted in Ordsall.

“She seems to be covering a lot of ground each day, going between Ordsall, Lower Broughton and the Quays. We had 30 people out at the weekend looking for her, plus loads more helping us, reporting sightings through social media.

“But it’s day ten now, we have 60 other dogs to care for and we just don’t know how long we can keep it up for, staying out till 2am looking for her. We need people to help now by telling us when and where they’ve seen her.”

Anyone who sees Molly is asked to contact Emma on 07815 444846 or via the rescue’s Facebook page.
