A YOUNG man was chased through the streets of north Manchester before being shot in the mouth and stabbed several times in a shocking night-time attack.

The victim, 20, suffered wounds to his head, upper body and leg during the incident but was able to flee the scene in Cheetham Hill.

Armed police descended on Kelvin Grove at around 8pm on Tuesday following reports that shots had been fired.

When they got there, there was no sign of the victim, but a large pool of blood was reportedly discovered.

Around 20 minutes later, officers were called to North Manchester General Hospital after the victim arrived suffering from a number of stab wounds to the leg and upper body.

He also had a minor gunshot wound to the face, described by police as ‘a glancing blow.’

The victim was taken to A&E by a Good Samaritan after being found injured in the street.

The black Audi they travelled in to hospital was later cordoned off by police for forensic testing and a second vehicle, parked next to where the attack happened, was also examined by CSI and covered with a white evidence tent.

It’s understood that the second car, a white Mercedes, was not connected to the incident but was being examined for traces of evidence. The Tactical Aid Unit was also drafted in yesterday morning to carry out a fingertip search of the surrounding streets and also Bignor Street sports area and playing fields.

The specially trained officers could be seen looking under cars and through bins for evidence.

Police and forensics remained at the scene into the afternoon, with detectives going door-to-door interviewing residents.

No-one had been arrested in connection with the attack.

One neighbour earlier told the M.E.N.: “I heard two shots go off, I thought it was fireworks at first.

“One of my neighbours said they heard screaming and we’ve been told that the man who was attacked was being chased by another guy and some people in a car.

“They came from Galsworthy Road onto Kelvin Grove – it sounds like they had been chasing him a while and just stumbled upon this street.”

A spokesman for GMP said the victim was pursued on foot, but the involvement of another vehicle was not confirmed.

The force said the man’s injuries were not life-threatening and he has since been discharged.
