THE victim of a drugs war shooting managed to dodge five bullets – with only one of them just grazing his lips.

The M.E.N. reported how violence erupted in Cheetham Hill on Tuesday night as one man was repeatedly stabbed and then shot in the face.

But it has now emerged that the victim suffered just scorching to his lips from one passing bullet after at least five shots were fired from a handgun. Detectives believe the violence is part of a feud between rival drugs gangs.

Officers were scrambled to Galsworthy Avenue at 8pm, but when they arrived the shooting victim had gone.

Later medics at Manchester Royal Infirmary informed police that the victim of the attack had arrived at A&E.

It is believed he arrived at the hospital in a black Audi.

The car was abandoned in the grounds of the hospital and the inside was said to be covered in blood.

The shooting victim was treated for several stab wounds and also scorching to his lips caused by one of the bullets, which narrowly missed his head.

“He’s very lucky he wasn’t more seriously injured or killed,” said one police source.

Detectives believed at least five and as many as seven shots were fired at the man.

The incident is thought to be connected to a continuing ‘war’ between rival drugs gangs in Cheetham Hill.

The latest spat had flared up earlier on Tuesday when a car was damaged during another encounter.

Galsworthy Avenue, which is off Cheetham Hill Road, was cordoned off by police as they began their investigation into the incident – which is being treated as attempted murder.

Forensic investigators were called to the scene late on Tuesday to gather evidence.

The Audi was also taken away for forensic examination.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Police are continuing to appeal to the public for information which could lead to the attackers.

Anyone with information can call police on 101 or ring Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
