Scholes tips Reds for European glory
UNITED will seal their ticket to the Champions League via both the Premier League top four and success in the Europa League.
Paul Scholes doesn’t believe the Reds will have to be sweating on one or the other route back to the elite Euro competition.
United will play Belgian club Anderlecht in the quarter finals of the Europa League next month.
And Old Trafford legend Scholes think Jose Mourinho’s side will lift United’s first European trophy since 2008 in Stockholm on May 24.
“If they can perform anything like they can then I think they have a great chance of winning it,” he told sportskeeda. “I think Lyon are maybe obvious contenders to United but apart from that I don’t see too many problems for them.”
United finally climbed off sixth spot into fifth before the international break with victory at Middlesbrough and Scholes insists they’ll succeed in edging into the Champions League berths as well.
“I expect them to finish fourth, they have been on a fantastic run without making much progress in the league.”
But Scholes says the Portuguese won’t be happy until the big prizes are back at Old Trafford.
“He won’t be happy finishing fourth or fifth in the league.
“He’ll want to be up there trying to win the league and I believe in the next couple of years he will be desperate to do that.”
