Teenager is knifed in stomach

-

A TEENAGER was set upon at a bus stop and stabbed – the third knife attack in Stockport in as many weeks.

The 19-year-old was attacked by a gang of youths at Merseyway, in the town centre, on Sunday shortly after midnight.

The group put a hat on his head then accused him of stealing it before punching him in the face and body.

At some point in the melee the victim was stabbed in the abdomen. He was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

Police identified some of the youths through bus CCTV as they used public transport to escape.

An officer spotted the gang later that day getting on another bus and three teenagers, one aged 15 and two 16-year-olds, were arrested and remained in custody for questioning.

Police were also called after a woman, 45, was stabbed in her side and left fighting for life in a dispute at Jubilee Court, Reddish, in the early hours of Thursday.

She was taken to Salford Royal’s intensive care unit but has since been transferred to a ward and is said to be in a stable condition.

A woman, 55, and a man, 24, have been arrested and charged with wounding with intent.

The two incidents come after a man was stabbed on Truro Avenue, Brinnington, on April 7. He was also seriously injured but is recovering.

Two days later a man, 33, was arrested and bailed pending further enquiries.

Police say that while it is unusual for three stabbings to happen so close together, the incidents are not linked.

A police spokesman said: “They were all different incidents with different scenarios and none of them are linked.

“These things can happen and despite stretched resources we are getting officers to the incident, have fully investigated and made swift arrests.”

Officers were also called to Ashdene Road, Heaton Mersey, on April 11 when a car chase ended with two brothers being attacked by a gang with machetes.

They were set upon after their car crashed into a lamppost and both needed hospital treatment.
