Man dies after he is hit by train

-

A MAN died after being hit by a train.

Police said they were called to Gorton railway station, in Lees Street, just before 5pm yesterday.

They said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

No further details about the man have been released.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: “BTP officers were called to Gorton train station on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, after a report that a man had been struck by a train.

“Officers from the BTP attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 4:54 PM and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Medics from the local ambulance service also attended but the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Services running through the station were affected.

All lines were blocked between Manchester Piccadilly and Guide Bridge in Audenshaw following the incident.

At about 6.30pm the railway line was re-opened in both directions, but services did not stop at Gorton.

The station remained closed off last night as investigations continued.

A Transpennine Express spokesman apologised to passengers for the disruption.
