Salford boss knows how dangerous semi-final rivals can be

SALFORD City will hope to move one step closer to promotion when they take on Halifax Town in the National League North play-off semifinal first-leg tonight.

The two teams meet at Moor Lane knowing that the victor will be in the driving seat ahead of Sunday’s second-leg at the Shay.

Salford joint-manager Anthony Johnson is excited for the clash, but is fully aware just how tough an opponent Halifax will be.

“We’ll enjoy the play-offs and do our homework on Halifax, but having already played them twice this season we know they’re a dangerous team,” he said.

“They’re a good side with a good manager who won promotion in this league last year, so our whole focus is solely on facing them now.

“We are confident but will keep our feet on the ground and understand the size of the club that we are coming up against.

“There are some experienced boys in our dressing room who have won the league and been there and done it, so we’ll be calling on them.

“The ambition of this club is where it needs to be and it’s down to luck that we’re here, it’s down to hard work and the lads buying into what me and Bernard are all about.”

Salford are yet to beat Halifax this season, with the last game coming at the Shay in January when Halifax ran out 4-2 winners.

The two teams were also held to a 2-2 draw when they met at Moor Lane in September.
