A DELIVEROO rider has launched an appeal to find a driver who knocked him off his bike in a hit-and-run.

Keiron Derbyshire, 41, was thrown from his bicycle in the collision on Wilmslow Road, at the junction with Wilbraham Road, in Fallowfield on Tuesday afternoon.

The silver VW Golf left the scene as Keiron lay injured in the middle of the road.

Keiron, a full-time Deliveroo rider, was taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary with gashes to his head and grazes all down his body. He says he also suffered an epileptic fit after the crash.

Keiron believes he had a lucky escape, but is urging anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the police.

The crash happened shortly after 2.30pm on Tuesday when Keiron was on his way to a collection.

Keiron, from Salford, said: “As I started to carry out my right turn I heard the roar of an engine and saw a car come swerving around the traffic.

“I was then hit from the side and knocked off my bike. People who saw said I hit the ground face first.

“When I came around I was on the floor surrounded by people. The police and ambulance arrived not long after.

“We think the car hit my bike and launched me across the road. The police said I must have been thrown about 10ft.

“I had blood all down my face and cuts and bruises all down one side. I also had an epileptic fit after the crash.

“I was really lucky not to be more seriously hurt. I’m just hoping someone out there got the number plate of the car.

“Without that the police aren’t going to be able to do much.”

Keiron’s bike was mangled in the smash, leaving him with no way to continue his delivery job once he recovers.

“As a Deliveroo rider I’m self-employed which means I’m unable to earn any money until I’m better,” he added.

“My bike is completely ruined and I can’t afford to replace it right now.”

A GMP spokesman said: “Police were called at 2.30pm on Tuesday to a road traffic collision between a bike and car. An ambulance was called. The car did not stop.”

A Deliveroo spokesperson added: “The safety of our riders is of the upmost importance to us. We have spoken to the rider who is now at home recovering and we are working with the police to support their investigation. We ask that any witnesses please come forward.”
