Lloyd leaves Stockport for Posh
STOCKPORT County boss Jim Gannon has started rebuilding his Hatters squad, with top goalscorer Danny Lloyd, captain Mark Ross and veteran forward Kay Odejayi among the list of high-profile departures.
Just days after revealing the names of players whose services are no longer required at Edgeley Park, out-of-contract Lloyd – who scored 29 goals in his debut season with the club – announced he would be joining League One side Peterborough on July 1 on a three-year deal.
County chief Gannon had intended to discuss a new deal with Lloyd, but the 25-year-old attacker admitted the move to the ABAX Stadium was a ‘no brainer.’
“It was an easy decision for me if I am honest,” said Lloyd. “As soon as I heard about the interest from Peterborough, I wanted to sign. I am a player who likes to create and score goals, I am direct, quick and always want to go forward.
“If I am honest, I wish pre-season was starting tomorrow because I am eager to get going. This is an opportunity for me and I am going to work extremely hard from day one.”
Goalkeepers Ben Hinchliffe and Ian Ormson remain at County, along with defenders Sam Minihan, Scott Duxbury, Connor Hampson and Michael Clarke.
Midfielders Lewis Montrose and Harry Winter stay, as does youngster Adam Etches.
Attacking midfielderJimmy Ball rounds off the 10 retained members of the squad after signing a two-year deal to remain with the club.
