Injuries will spur us on in final – Herrera

-

ANDER Herrera insists Manchester United’s injury woes will give the team additional motivation to lift the Europa League trophy in Stockholm.

Jose Mourinho’s men progressed to the final of the competition with a 2-1 aggregate victory over Celta Vigo, and will face Ajax later this month.

But they will be without Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as well as Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Luke Shaw, who have all been ruled out for the season.

And Herrera believes that they all deserve a share of the glory, should United triumph.

Asked if United would be fighting for Ibrahimovic, Herrera told BT Sport: “And for Marcos Rojo as well. He has a very big injury, same as Zlatan and we will fight for both. For both, for us, for the injured players – Zlatan, Rojo, Young, Fosu-Mensah, Smalling and Jones. We are a team.”

Former City striker John Guidetti spurned a golden chance to win the tie for the Spanish outfit with the last kick of the game on what was a nervy night for the Old Trafford faithful.

But Herrera insists the performance doesn’t matter on such a tense occasion, providing the team get the required result.

He added: “It was a crazy game. I think we were better in the first leg, we deserved to get a better result and today we suffered. We suffered but we are in the final, we are happy because we have worked hard to be here and now we must try to win it.

“You cannot win a semi-final calm, you cannot win it easy. They were playing the game of their lives.”
