/THE BEST OF MANCHESTER PUT SOME FABULOUS FIZZ INTO SUMMER

- Dianne.bourne@men-news.co.uk @diannebourne

FIZZ is king on Manchester’s bar scene right now with prosecco and champagne sales going through the roof. While dedicated champagne bars are few and far between in the city, plenty of venues are cottoning on to the popularity of all things fizzy - with celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo recently launching his own prosecco bar inside his self-named restaurant in the city, and Italian restaurant Salvi’s launching a dedicated fizz bar inside the Corn Exchange.

Here we’ve rounded up some of the best places to get the corks popping across Manchester city centre, focusing on those venues where you can buy both prosecco and champagne by the GLASS as well as by the bottle. Epernay Manchester’s original champagne bar, Epernay, remains the popular choice for fizz fans who want a variety of options of champers, served by the glass and by the bottle (or magnum if you’re really pushing the boat out). It boasts the biggest range of champagnes by the glass - 15 in total - in the city centre, starting from £6.90 a glass. Situated on Watson Street, there’s also a great terrace to watch the hustle and bustle on Peter Street and Deansgate go by while you swig your fizz. Salvi’s Terrazza The newest fizz bar to the block, popular family-run Italian Salvi’s has branched out with its dedicated Terrazza cocktail and prosecco bar inside the Corn Exchange Atrium, with prosecco from £6 a glass, and Moet at £8 a glass. It’s a six month pop-up for the moment, but if it proves a success could extend the stay. We’re loving the black leather bar and matching seating.

Atrium, Corn Exchange, Exchange Street, Manchester, M4 3TR San Carlo Bottega Celebhaunt Italian restaurant group San Carlo sell more champagne at their Bottega champagne bar and restaurant inside Selfridges that at any other of their popular city centre venues. Indeed, to cater for such a luxury-loving crowd, they’ve even recently launched a special champagne and caviar menu. You can be assured of a crisp, fresh glass of your Laurent Perrier every time - thanks to the venue’s special LP machines that re-inject a boost of fizz with every glass purchased, from £11.95 a glass. Open during Selfridges opening hours only.

Selfridges Second Floor, Exchange Square, Manchester, M3 1BD Rosso Another of the city’s celebhaunt Italians, Rosso has long been known for its extensive fizzy offering, including being the ONLY city centre venue to serve Dom Perignon by the glass (£30), as well as their exclusive vintage 1982 P3 if you have £1500 to spare for the bottle. There also four franciacortas, alongside 8 different proseccos, starting at £6 a glass and champers from £11 for a glass of Veuve Clicquot. The venue, co-owned by former Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand, underwent a major refurbishment in January, with a larger and re-styled bar area with stylish white leather seats and glass-top tables.

43 Spring Gardens, Manchester, M2 2BG Gino’s Prosecco bar Celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo knows how to please his audience, and that’s with loads of prosecco and free aperitivo time every night. He launched his My Prosecco Bar inside his Corn Exchange Restaurant in March, with 40 different bottles of fizz, and every night between 4pm to 6pm you can get free nibbles while you sip your fizz. Prosecco is from £5 a glass, and champagne at £9 a glass.

The Corn Exchange, Exchange Street, Manchester, M4 3TR Tom’s Champagne Bar Nestled inside Kendal’s on Deansgate, Tom’s is a quiet, but refined hidden gem of a champagne bar for those in need of some fizzy respite in the midst of a shopping spree. Prosecco is from £6 a glass and champers £9. Open during Kendal’s opening hours only.

House of Fraser Third Floor, 98-116 Deansgate, Manchester, M3 2QG Manchester House Up on the 12th floor on Bridge Street is the super-swanky Manchester House Lounge, with stunning views across the city, including four outdoor corner “terraces”. There’s a huge selection for fizz lovers, with 34 types of fizz listed, starting at £8 to £15 a glass.
